TMI vs. TID Tag

Hi, everyone! I hope you’re doing well.

Instead of doing a full series review of The Mortal Instruments, I decided to do the TMI vs. TID tag (The Mortal Instruments vs. The Infernal Devices) since my review of TMI would’ve been very similar to my TID review.

This tag was created by Samantha’s Books on YouTube and can be found here.

Here we go!

1. Favorite main character: Clary or Tessa?

In my TID series review, I said that I liked Tessa more than Clary, but honestly, how can I possibly choose? I love them in their own ways, and they make their respective series what they are. I’m giving half a point to each of these females, because they’ve both made such an impact on my mind.

I love Clary for her willingness to run into any dangerous situation to save those she loves. I love her love for Jace, and her friendship with Simon. And I love how she willingly embraced the Shadowhunter life with enthusiasm.

And Tessa. She’s sweet, but tough and courageous. Even though she’s a Downworlder, she takes what she is for what it is and fights for the Shadowhunters. She loves deeply and intensely. She has a love for literature, which I can connect with, and even though she struggles with her past and with the loss of her family, she’s always so brave.

I pictured Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Tessa and Kat McNamara as Clary (except a bit younger than she is in the TV show and without that orange hair).

I love both so much, but my heart truly lies with Will. Since both are Herondales, it was actually difficult to choose which one I preferred, but in the end, Will is the best male character I’ve ever read. He’s the perfect balance of arrogance and pride and sarcasm, with huge loads of romance and love and devotion. I adore him.

I love Jace, too, for all the things he is and how much he’s like Will. Will just made me swoon quite a bit more than Jace.

I pictured this guy as Will. I’m not sure who he is, but he looks like my Will.

let__s_stay_together_always_by_street_angel-d5ge7ug.jpg3. Favorite love triangle: Simon/Clary/Jace or Will/Tessa/Jem?

The Simon/Clary/Jace love triangle was never even a thing, truly. Simon never stood a chance. It ended as quickly as it began. It never felt like a true love triangle. So, of course, my answer is Will/Tessa/and Jem’s love triangle. It’s the only love triangle in the history of love triangles that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. It was executed so perfectly, as I discussed in my TID series review, and Cassie Clare truly made me fall in love with both boys (though my heart truly lies with Will).

Both are pretty great villains. I mean, the Magister planned his revenge for years, he’s a mundane (even though he was raised by warlocks), and he was terrifying. However, he wasn’t as terrifying and as evil as Sebastian. Sebastian was literally the creepiest and most terrifying villain ever. Sebastian turned his followers into demons and could do so easily. He almost brought down the entire Shadow World. Everyone was terrified of him. The Magister, it seems, was brought down fairly easily, but it was difficult to kill Sebastian. Sebastian was just the better villain, in my opinion.

I pictured this guy as Sebastian. Not sure who he is, but he’s my evil Sebastian.

There never was a huge battle with the Clockwork Army. It was a central part of all the books, but the battle wasn’t monumental. The Dark Army, however, was terrifying and powerful and took hold of tons of unwilling and willing Shadowhunters. It changed the game of TIM and the Shadow World. The Dark Army was definitely a better planned and more intense army.

City_of_Bones.jpg6. Better first book: City of Bones or Clockwork Angel?

I loved both books, but since City of Bones was my introduction to the Shadow World and the first Cassandra Clare book I ever read, it has to be my answer for this one. City of Bones hooked me from the start and began this wild ride and my love for Cassie and her books and her world.

tumblr_inline_nnoo3nGE801sjnxj2_400.png7. Better female sidekick: Isabelle Lightwood or Cecily Herondale?

I think if I would’ve gotten to experience more of Cecily, my answer might have been different, but we only got her for one book. Isabelle was a central point of every book in TMI, and I loved how strong, stubborn, and passionate she was in each book. Isabelle is the perfect representation of a strong female lead. Isabelle and Cecily are a lot alike, though, and if Cecily would’ve been present in all three books of TID, my answer might’ve been different. Nevertheless, Isabelle takes this one.

I pictured Emeraude Toubia from the TV show as Isabelle. She just looks like Isabelle to me!

8. Better setting: The New York Institute or The London Institute?

The London Institute, definitely! It just fits the entire “Shadowhunter” theme, to me! It just made everything seem secretive and magical at the same time.

18335634.jpg9. Better last book: City of Heavenly Fire or Clockwork Princess?

Clockwork Princess is my favorite book of all time, at the moment. I was an emotional mess for the entire book—especially the last 100 pages. Everything was wrapped up so well. While I loved City of Heavenly Fire and how it wrapped up the whole TMI series and tied in TID, I just enjoyed Clockwork Princess so much more.

10. Better final epilogue: City of Heavenly Fire or Clockwork Princess?

tumblr_nkmmb4vp1R1s9oyh2o4_r1_500.gif

I loved City of Heavenly Fire’s epilogue—I truly did. It wrapped up everything and tied in TID. But like before, Clockwork Princess had the perfect, most bittersweet ending. It was the most beautiful writing Cassie has ever done (that I’ve read), and I can’t imagine a better epilogue. Clockwork Princess takes it, once again.

Total:
TMI – 4.5
TID – 5.5

It appears I liked TID more, which I already knew! Still, I loved both of these series so much, and I can’t wait to continue on in the Shadowhunter Chronicles books. I’m dying to read Lady Midnight as soon as possible!
