Mean Girls Book Tag

Hi, everyone! I have some exciting news!

I’m an official high school English teacher! I’ll be teaching 10th or 11th grade in the fall. I’m nervous, excited, scared out of my mind, and hopeful. If you have advice, please feel free to share.

I’m posting an awesome tag today – the Mean Girls Book Tag. Mean Girls is my favorite movie and I knew I had to do this tag. The creator of the tag can be found here.

1. “It’s pronounced like Cady.”

Which fictional character’s names did you get completely wrong?
I’m not sure if I got the names wrong, but I just know they were a bit odd to encounter and read. In the Vampire Academy Series, all the Russian last names, such as Dashkov, Ivashkov, Belikov, and more, I wasn’t sure if I was pronouncing them correctly in my head or not. Also, many of the names from the Harry Potter series. One of the names that I  can never pronounce correctly is Fleur. It just rolls weirdly off my tongue. And Seamus. At first I pronounced it like it looks (See – mus). But I think it’s pronounced like Shay-mus.

I’m sure there are many more, but you get the point.

2. “She doesn’t even go here!”

Which character would you like to place in a fictional world from another book or series?
I love Will Herondale so much that I’d want him to exist in a Stephanie Perkins book. He kind of reminds me of St. Clair, and I’d like to see the relationship that Stephanie would put him in.

Actually, I’d like Will Herondale in every book. Every single book.

3. “On Wednesdays we wear pink!”

Repetition, repetition. Which book gave you deja vu of another while reading it?
I don’t know an exact book, but a lot of YA Contemporaries and YA Dystopians are the same as others that are already published. Especially Dystopians.

4. “You all have to stop calling each other sluts and whores. It just makes it okay for guys to call you sluts and whores.”

Which book gave you the complete opposite of girl power feels?
Fifty Shades of Grey and Twilight. In FSoG, it wasn’t how Christian treated Ana that gave me no girl power feels, but how Ana reacted. She was so whiney and dependent and ugh. Same with Bella, except Edward was great toward her. Bella was just boring. Nothing made me want to support her.

5. “You go Glen Coco!”

Name a character you felt like you wanted to cheer on while reading.
I tend to cheer on male characters a lot, because in many books, the women don’t treat them fairly. Such examples are Cricket, St. Clair, and Josh from Stephanie Perkins’ books; Jace Wayland and Will Herondale from Cassandra Clare’s books; Gideon Crossfire from the Crossfire Series; and Hardin Scott from the After Series. Girls I cheer on are Isabelle Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments; Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter Series; and Rose Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir from the Vampire Academy Series.

6. “Get in loser, we’re going shopping.”

How long do you typically spend in a book shop?
It depends on the bookstore. Used bookstores, maybe an hour or so. Barnes and Noble and Books-A-Million, maybe half an hour.

7. “It’s not my fault you’re, like, in love with me or something!”

Which character would have to get a restraining order on you, if they were real?
I love fictional boys, but I’d never go crazy over one to the point of where he’d need a restraining order on me. I’m not a crazy person. I’d build a friendship first and then concentrate on the relationship aspect. I don’t like stalker types.

8. “I can’t help it that I’m popular.”

Which overhyped book were you cautious about reading?
I was really cautious about reading The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices because they’re super hyped and I wasn’t sure if they’d capture my love. However, I’m working my way through them right now, and they are my new favorite series and Cassandra Clare is my new favorite author.

9. “She’s a life ruiner. She ruins people’s lives.”

We all love Regina George. Name a villain you just love to hate.
Dolores Umbridge, Valentine Morgenstern and Sebastian Morgenstern, Axel Mortmain, and Count Olaf.

10. “I’m not like a regular mom. I’m a cool mom.”

Name your favorite fictional parents.
I really love Molly and Arthur Weasley. I love how they are loving and accepting of all children, not just their own. They’re quirky and looked down upon in the wizarding world, but Molly and Arthur were two of my favorite characters in the Harry Potter Series. I’d love to spend some time in the Burrow with all their kids and the hustle and bustle and the business. It seems like it’d be such a fun time!

11. “That is so fetch!”

Which book/series would you love to catch on?
The Beautiful Series by Christina Lauren. I know many people already know of it, but it’s not a series I hear a lot about in the blogging community or on BookTube. It’s a wonderful series and the authors seem like such wonderful ladies. I wish more people would give these books a chance!

12. “How do I even begin to explain Regina George?”

tumblr_n4lutszvDQ1sco42wo7_500.gif

Describe your ideal character to read about.
I really enjoy reading about girls who are intelligent and witty. But for the boys…I like snarky, bad boys who end up changing their ways for a girl. It’s a weakness. (Example: Will Herondale).

13. “I just have a lot of feelings.”

tumblr_inline_n391zbbc581sup1ue.gif

What do you do when a book gives you a bad case of the feels?
Probably what most fangirls do: cry, watch BookTube videos of the book, read blog posts about the books, read fan fiction, watch YouTube fan videos, browse Tumblr, and spend hours reading reviews on Goodreads. Basically, I get into a slump.

14. “Nice wig, Janice. What’s it made of? “Your mom’s chest hair!”

tumblr_mddvy8TItw1ru1wbho2_500.gif

Which character’s one liners would you love to claim for your own?
SO MANY. When reading a book, one thing that makes me happy is witty dialogue. Not many authors can write it, but those that can do it so beautifully! I’d love to claim Hazel Grace Lancaster’s lines, any of Cassandra Clare’s characters’ lines, and Rose Hathaway’s lines. All are incredible characters with such sarcasm and wit.

15. “Boo, you whore.”

tumblr_mqxwdtm4C51s3xx2ao1_250.gif

Name a time a character’s decisions have made you roll your eyes.
There are many, but two of the most notable are Tessa from the After Series and Eva from the Crossfire Series. Both make two really stupid decisions when it comes to the boys in their lives. I love both of these series and both the male leads, but sometimes, the women do the stupidest things. It’s frustrating.

That’s it! If you’re reading this, do the tag! Mean Girls is the best, and I’d love to see everyone else’s answers.

Happy reading!

I love this movie so much, the tag is very cute!
And SO MANY Congratulations on your new job!!! I am a high-school math teacher (11th and 12th grade) – so if you ever need anything, ask! I would say the first few years I had no idea what I was doing in retrospect-but not to be too depressing, because that’s how we learn.
The most important thing will be a support network, because all of your energy will go towards providing for your students (teaching is exhausting but most of all it’s emotionally draining)-so it’s so important to have your own energy replenished by friends, reading, having fun, etc. Don’t be like me and completely forfeit your life :/ That was probably my worst decision – when things got tough at the job, I just doubled down and became even more upset instead of taking care of myself and coming back to it with renewed energy.
And *whatever* happens, don’t beat yourself up, know that you are absolutely NOT ALONE! YOU’VE GOT THIS!!!!! ❤
